The New Orleans Saints are embarking on a new era with Kellen Moore taking over as the team’s first-year head coach.

The Saints made a bold move in the NFL Draft by selecting Louisville QB Tyler Shough in the second round of the NFL Draft last weekend. They currently have Derek Carr under contract and he accounts for a major hit against the cap, but he’s been inconsistent since he came to New Orleans and recently confirmed he’s struggling with a shoulder injury that may put his 2025 season in jeopardy.

So with Moore’s background leading quarterbacks like Dak Prescott, Justin Herbert and most recently, Jalen Hurts to a Super Bowl victory, it’s safe to say the young Saints QB is in good hands when it comes to his head coach.

The only issue is the Saints entered thee offseason way below the salary cap, so they couldn’t add new weapons this offseason.

That means, whether it’s Shough, Spencer Rattler or Carr, the 2025 Saints starting QB will be be thrown into a gauntlet with Chris Olave as his biggest offensive weapon with Alvin Kamara in the backfield.

The Saints desperately need another reliable WR opposite of Olave and Bleacher Report has a solution

BR predicts the Saints will sign 5-time Pro Bowl WR Amari Cooper, who is currently a free agent after finishing last season with the Buffalo Bills.

“ The Saints are looking for a player to pair alongside their standout receiver. Chris Olave should still serve as New Orleans' No. 1 option in the pass game next season, but the team doesn't have a wide array of weapons behind him.

The Saints selected Louisville quarterback Tyler Shough in the second round of the 2025 draft, and he might find himself starting under center before the regular season comes to a close.

If New Orleans wants to help ease Shough's transition to the NFL, it could sign a veteran such as Cooper.”
