The Toronto Blue Jays are 13-15 to start the year. If they fall out of contention by the trade deadline, they could look to trade one of their best players before he hits free agency.

Bo Bichette is off to a strong start, even though his power looks to have declined. He is hitting .292 through 28 games and has 13 RBIs. He is in the final year of his three-year, $33 million extension he signed in 2023. While there are reports about his desire to stay in Toronto and continue playing with Vladimir Guerrero Jr., the Blue Jays may not want to pay him. FanSided's Jack Ferraro listed him as a trade candidate should the Blue Jays fall out of contention.

"While Bichette has been a two-time All-Star who also led the American League in hits twice, he's coming off a rough year where he struggled with injuries," wrote Ferraro. "But the 27-year-old Bichette has been better this year (.292 average, 25 hits, 13 RBI), which means that the Blue Jays could get a solid return for him. If the Blue Jays don't think that they'll be able to ink Bichette to an extension, then they should explore his trade market."

Bichette's current contract places him at 16th among shortstops in total value and average annual value. Ferraro noted that he could be looking for a $200 million deal, which would tie Carlos Correa for the sixth-biggest shortstop contract in terms of total value.

Last offseason, Willy Adames signed a $182 million deal with the San Francisco Giants, and he has never even been named an All-Star. Regardless of what the figures of Bichette's next contract are, he is in line for a significant raise. The Blue Jays' $500 million commitment to Guerrero could make it very tough to pay Bichette.

If that is the case, the Blue Jays could flip him for some young players to build around at the trade deadline. If he is made available, plenty of teams would be interested in a player who hits for a high average and has 20-homer potential, even if it is for just half a season.
