The Dallas Cowboys will enter a critical 2025 season looking to rebound in an increasingly crowded NFC East. The franchise has undergone several changes this year, including at head coach, with Brian Schottenheimer coming in to fill this vacancy. One of Schottenheimer's main areas of concern in 2025 is keeping quarterback Dak Prescott healthy.
The All-Pro QB suffered several injuries last season after signing a massive contract extension last offseason. While the Cowboys have reworked Prescott’s contract to add some financial flexibility, the team is highly reliant on its leader under center to elevate the entire offense.
One positional group on this side of the ball that has deteriorated over the past few seasons has been the offensive line. For the past decade, the franchise has had numerous Hall of Fame players upfront, including Zack Martin, who retired this offseason. Martin’s departure subsequently leaves the Cowboys with a massive need at right guard.
According to Pro Football Network, the organization should pursue free-agent guard Will Hernandez to compete for this opening. The 29-year-old has been in the NFL for six years and previously played with the Arizona Cardinals. Pro Football Network gives the following justification for this signing.
“Will Hernandez is a relatively cheap option who has experience at the right guard position, which is a clear need for the Cowboys after losing Zack Martin to retirement. This will give them immediate competition for Robert Jones and whoever they draft this season.”
With a projected market value of $4.3 million annually, Hernandez is very much affordable for the Cowboys to add. While Jerry Jones is likely to bring in at least one offensive lineman from this year’s NFL Draft, Hernandez brings a pedigree of success and experience that this team is in dire need of.

Since there are still questions at both the running back and the wide receiver position heading into 2025, Prescott will need to be at his very best to lead this team back to the playoffs. As the Cowboys know very well, it all starts with winning the battle in the trenches for their quarterback to be successful.
