The Chicago Bulls' season ended after the Miami Heat eliminated them from the play-in. It marks another season in which the Bulls are perfectly mediocre, which wouldn’t be such a big deal if Chicago hadn’t been struggling with exactly this for almost a decade now.
The Bulls are in for some big changes this offseason because things can't stay this way for them. If they want to build a contender, it may start with rounding out the edges. One way Chicago can do that is by trading for a sharpshooter. Bleacher Report’s Zach Buckley explained why Oklahoma City Thunder sharpshooter Isaiah Joe
“Isaiah Joe ranks favorably among the best spacers in basketball. Since becoming a rotation regular in 2022-23, he has averaged 2.2 triples with a 41.2 percent splash rate. And he provides all that net-shredding while also being a competent and pesky player at the defensive end,” Buckley wrote.
But why would the Thunder trade Joe? Buckley explained why Oklahoma City would consider that route.
“Offseason strategizing starts with daydreaming, though, and there's a scenario in which Oklahoma City convinces itself it can find an even cheaper version of Joe, a cost-cutting measure to prepare for the upcoming paydays to Jalen Williams and Chet Holmgren,” Buckley stated.
Joe just started the first year of a team-friendly four-year, $48 million contract. Since joining the Thunder, he’s developed into quite an asset. However, as loaded as the Thunder are, the team will eventually have to start paying up to keep it intact, which could make Joe the odd man out.
