Indiana Fever star Caitlin Clark has quickly become a household name after just one season in the WNBA. The former Iowa Hawkeyes superstar is a must-watch for many WNBA fans around the country, making the Fever a marketable team in any city they travel to.
As Clark begins her second year in the league, there are high expectations for the Fever, especially with a new head coach and some big offseason additions coming to Indiana.
But, in her rookie year, a nickname surfaced surface for Clark: Anne Splashway. Where did it come from? Why is she called that? Well, let's dive in.
Explaining Caitlin Clark's Anne Splashway Nickname
How did it start? Ahead of the 2024 WNBA Draft, Clark said she would want Anne Hathaway to play in her in a hypothetical biopic.

Two weeks later during Fever training camp, one fan coined the nickname on social media in a quoted post of a Fever video. From there, it caught on, and fans ran with it.
"and anne splashaway was born," one fan wrote to the Fever video of Clark's Hathaway comment.
"Anne splashaway is a top-tier nickname," another fan stated.
Of course, Clark's unreal 3-point range also goes hand in hand with the nickname.

From there, it just kept going, and it still rings true to this day ahead of Clark's second season.

And there's the physical resemblance of Hathaway, so this nickname is one that might stick around for some time.
