No. 1 Tennessee and No. 3 Texas A&M are set to clash in another all-SEC College World Series finals.
The Volunteers are hoping to become the first No. 1 overall seed to win the CWS since Miami accomplished the feat in 1999. Tennessee has won all three of its games in Omaha, including a 7-2 victory over No. 8 Florida State to punch its ticket to the finals.
Tennessee last made the CWS finals in 1951, back when the finals were a one-game showdown. But now the Volunteers (58-12) are on the doorstep of a title, led by a powerful lineup including Christian Moore and Blake Burke.
Texas A&M — the only remaining undefeated team this postseason — is heading to the CWS finals for the first time in program history.
The Aggies' pitching staff has dominated the opposition in Omaha, allowing just three runs across three games. On Wednesday, Texas A&M (52-13) silenced Florida, allowing just four hits en route to a 6-0 victory that eliminated the Gators.
This is the third time in the last four seasons that the CWS title game is comprised of two SEC teams. The two teams met previously in the SEC Tournament, a 7-4 Tennessee victory.
