The Los Angeles Chargers, in preparation for their huge Monday Night Football tilt against the Baltimore Ravens to close out Week 12 in the NFL, waived a player on their roster who once had a promising future.
The Chargers have parted ways with safety A.J. Finley. Undrafted out of Ole Miss last year, Finley made a strong impression on the coaching staff last season and seemed to do the same this summer, leading into what looked like a strong role with the team heading into this season. But the trade for Elijah Molden following the preseason took that role away from Finley and relegated him almost exclusively to special teams.
The #Chargers today activated DB Deane Leonard from IR, signed CB Eli Apple to the active roster, waived S AJ Finley, placed TE Hayden Hurst on IR, and elevated S Tony Jefferson and OLB Caleb Murphy from the practice squad for tonight’s game.

While making moves to get ready for the Ravens, the team felt it could part with Finley, at least for now. The team also made the following moves ahead of the game:
- Activated CB Deane Leonard from IR
- Signed CB Eli Apple to active roster
- Placed TE Hayden Hurst on IR
- Elevated S Tony Jefferson LB Caleb Murphy from practice squad
Finley will be subject to waivers but if he is not claimed by another team within 24 hours, the Chargers could bring him back to their practice squad.
