The 49ers bolstered their defensive front by selecting Texas defensive lineman Alfred Collins with the No. 43 overall pick in the second round of the 2025 NFL Draft — and one famous Longhorn loved the move.

Oscar-winning actor Matthew McConaughey, a University of Texas alum, praised the pick on Friday, April 25, suggesting Collins has the hardworking, "first one in, last one out" mentality that fits the 49ers’ culture.

At 6-foot-5 and 320 pounds, Collins immediately addresses one of the biggest issues the 49ers face this coming year. San Francisco allowed the seventh most yards per carry and second most rushing touchdowns in the NFL last season. Collins racked up 55 tackles and six tackles for loss in 2024 and is expected to help shore up the 49ers’ run defense — and help collapse the pocket on passing downs alongside first-round pick Mykel Williams.

If Williams and Collins live up to expectations, San Francisco's trenches could be set to shine in 2025 — with McConaughey among those already cheering them on.
