The Boston Red Sox are the AL East favorites to land international ace Roki Sasaki, per MLB.com. The Red Sox have committed a decent amount of resources to scouting Sasaki, so it may be possible they land him.

“Boston presents a major market -- and plenty of opportunity. The Red Sox have made just one postseason appearance in the past six seasons, but they're coming off a third-place finish after back-to-back last-place seasons in the East…the Sox could certainly use a top-tier starter to anchor a young rotation that showed flashes last season with Tanner Houck, Kutter Crawford and Brayan Bello”.

This is all true. Sasaki isn’t allowed to sign a huge contract like Yoshinobu Yamamoto, since he’s under 25. This means he’ll try to make it up in endorsements, which the other teams in the AL East can’t give him.

The Toronto Blue Jays, Tampa Bay Rays and the Baltimore Orioles aren’t high profile cities, and the New York Yankees are already paying way too much money in endorsements to their players, and they also compete with the other seven New York teams.

Boston is the only high-profile city with not many players taking up the big endorsements. It would be the perfect home for him on the East Coast.
