Shohei Ohtani Over 1.5 Total (+110 at DraftKings)
A down season for Ohtani is still a .286/.386/.533 slash line. His advanced stats suggest positive regression is coming, which is bad news for Miami starter Edward Cabrera.
Ohtani is making hard contact on 60% of his at-bats this season. That’s an insane rate. For context, Mookie Betts, his All-Star teammate, is making hard contact on less than 30% of his at-bats.
Ohtani showed signs of heating up over the weekend, and we should bet on that trend continuing given his pedigree and the matchup. Ohtani was 5-for-9 over the weekend against Pittsburgh, with four extra-base hits. He’s 2-for-5 lifetime against Cabrera, and is hitting .300 lifetime against the Marlins collection of hurlers.
As for Cabrera, he’s been a punching bag for enemy batters this season. Opposing hitters have smacked 13 hits and scored 10 times versus him in only 14 innings, taking him deep in three consecutive outings.
Patrick Corbin Under 16.5 Outs (-110 at DraftKings)
Patrick Corbin is on the mound today, which means we’re finding a way to bet against him. Targeting Corbin has been extremely profitable over the last few years, and he’s getting way too much respect from online sportsbooks ahead of his start vs the Athletics.
Corbin’s over/under for outs recorded is set at 16.5, a mark he hasn’t hit all season. He’s coughed up 17 hits and 4 home runs in only three starts, and is fresh off his worst outing of the season.
The lefty yielded 7 hits and 2 dingers to the same Athletics lineup he’ll face today. Current A's batters are slashing .298/.365/.553 versus Corbin in 47 at-bats, with just an 18% strikeout rate.
Corbin’s K/9 rate sits at a career low of 6.3. He’s allowing home runs at the highest mark of his MLB tenure (.48%), while opponents are making hard contact at a 35.4% clip. Expect another short outing for Corbin today.
