Ten-time Australian Open champion Novak Djokovic has thrown his support behind Danielle Collins in her battle with Aussie crowds.

Collins had several controversial interactions with the fans during her second-round win over Destanee Aiava, telling the supporters to 'shut up', while stating that the crowd was 'paying her bills' in her on-court interview.

Djokovic, who has had his own issues with Australian crowds during matches, declared he was a 'big fan' of Collins' behaviour after her match, insisting the American's reaction was warranted.

"I loved her response. I loved it, everything she said on the court, off the court," Djokovic said after his win over Tomas Machac.

"Big fan of Danielle Collins after that. I was before, but now, big fan. I love it.

"I heard some comments of people that she shouldn't have said that or that. I think she handled it really well.

"I don't think I would be that polite, and I know exactly the feeling. So I think she was funny, smart, and just big fan of what she did. Big fan."

Collins is expected to have another interesting encounter with the crowd as she takes on Madison Keys on Rod Laver Arena on Saturday night.
