The NCAA baseball tournament has not even begun, and already, there are some surprises.
Wake Forest entered the year with as much hype as any college baseball team in recent memory. The Demon Deacons have struggled, particularly on the pitching side, and now not only find themselves not as the top overall team as many projected, but preparing to play on the road in a regional.
But while it might be surprising given preseason expectations to see them left out of the national seeding, it is more surprising for teams like ACC tournament champion Duke and Conference USA tournament champion Dallas Baptist, a pair of standout programs that are among the hottest in the sport.
There are others that shouldn't be surprised to see they'll host postseason games. Tennessee is expected to be the top overall seed, leading a bevy of strong SEC teams that include squads like Kentucky, Texas A&M, Arkansas and Georgia. Three North Carolina teams — UNC, NC State and East Carolina — will host regionals as well after standout campaigns.
While there are 16 teams who know they'll be playing at home for a chance to reach the super regionals, the rest of the country will have to wait to see where they rank — if they wound up being seeded at all — in the 2024 NCAA Division I Baseball Tournament.

NCAA baseball tournament bracket 2024
The NCAA released their full slate of teams and national seeds at noon ET, on Monday, May 27. It had announced the host sites for the 16 regionals on Sunday.
The top 16 teams in the country will serve as regional hosts for four-team brackets. The regionals will start with the top team in each regional facing the fourth team, and the middle teams squaring off. The winners of each first game will move on to face one another while the loses of the first games will square off in an elimination game. The brackets continue until three teams have two losses each and are eliminated.
The winners of the double-elimination brackets will advance to the super regionals, which will be best-of-three matchups hosted by the higher seeds.
Regionals are paired up with the ones each will be facing in the super regionals. The No. 1 regional will face the No. 16, the No. 2 will face No. 15 and so on.
