The Detroit Tigers own the best record in the American League at 22-13. They also are coming off of a surprising second-half run after selling at last year's trade deadline that saw them reach the ALDS.

In 2025, things appear to be different for the Tigers, as they are now an established contender. But they are going to need a little help on the offensive side. Signing Gleyber Torres helps, but they need more.

With the St. Louis Cardinals expected to sell at this year's deadline, third baseman Nolan Arenado could be on the move. Jim Bowden of The Athletic proposed the idea of Detroit trading for the eight-time All-Star.

"Arenado has a full no-trade clause and has not indicated he would accept a move to the Motor City. However, perhaps the eight-time All-Star would reconsider the opportunity to join Detroit, a playoff team with one of the best and deepest five-man rotations in MLB," Bowden writes.

Arenado's no-trade clause could complicate matters. Last offseason, when St. Louis was trying to trade him, the Tigers were not on his list of preferred destinations.

However, that could change given the Tigers hot start. Third base is a weak spot for them, and they did try to sign Alex Bregman last offseason.

Arenado is the next best option with Bregman now in a Boston Red Sox uniform. Detroit may have to part with some key prospects to get a deal done, but it might be worth it to elevate them to true contender status.

The 34-year-old has cooled down a bit since his hot start but is still hitting .254/.341/.402 with three home runs, 14 RBI and a .742 OPS. His power numbers appear to be returning to their normal levels.

We'll see if Detroit ends up on his list of preferred destinations at the deadline. Their hot start could change his mind.
