The new WNBA season means new PE sneakers, and up on the dock is a previously unseen Nike Sabrina 2, which are apparently inspired by slurpees.
During a recent practice for the New York Liberty, Sabrina Ionescu was interviewed by reporter Greydy Diaz, who pointed out that she hadn’t seen the shoes the athlete was wearing, to which Ionescu revealed that the design was inspired by the pick-up games she played with her brother for Slurpee money as a child.
“I haven’t seen this colorway before, can you talk a little bit about it?,” asked Diaz. “This color is actually for the color of slurpees. My brothers and I played for slurpy money at the park to be able to go to the store…get the blue and the red. So, we came up with this cool kind of red and blue icy colorway. It’s a tribute to when we were young,” she responded.

The comments were equally excited, with fans saying, “When can you buy them on the Nike website??? I love them!,” wrote one. “When do they come out I need those,” added another. At the moment, it’s unclear when exactly these Sabrina 2s will be dropping, but the Nike Sabrina 2 GS Volt has a confirmed release date of May 1, which is an exciting update. Featuring a Volt Green design with matching laces, the silhouette draws inspiration from Ionescu’s on-court versatility and skill.
Sleek design aside, the shoes are also built for performance, incorporating Nike’s advanced technology with features that include responsive cushioning and a supportive fit to enhance agility on the court.
