The Sacramento Kings finished the 2025 campaign as the No. 10 seed in the Western Conference, which, considering they dealt their franchise cornerstone at the trade deadline, isn’t too bad.

The new look Big Three of Domantas Sabonis, DeMar DeRozan, and Zach LaVine kept the Kings afloat, but cannot seriously contend for a title. Despite a Play-In Tournament matchup against the Dallas Mavericks, Sacramento is not anticipated to make any noise if they reach the playoffs.

Sabonis, at 28 years old, could continue as a key part of the Kings’ roster, or they could deal him this offseason and begin a rebuild. Assuming they opt for the former, an ex-Oklahoma City Thunder superstar could negate the loss of De’Aaron Fox.

Bleacher Report’s Erik Beaston predicts the Kings to sign Denver Nuggets guard Russell Westbrook this offseason.

“He could be the veteran leadership on a young squad like Orlando or could start in Sacramento, bringing them stability at the point guard position and teaming up with DeMar DeRozan, Zach LaVine, and Domantas Sabonis, all of whom could benefit from his elite passing skills,” Beaston wrote.

Westbrook is not close to the level of player he was  during his time in Oklahoma City, nor is he on the same tier as Fox. There, he averaged a triple-double multiple times and hoisted his lone MVP. Fast forward to 2025, he averaged 13.3 points, 6.1 assists, and 4.9 rebounds in the regular season with the Nuggets.

Despite the obvious gap between Fox and Westbrook, he could still act as a strong contributor in either unit while also providing strong veteran leadership.
