The Chicago Cubs are out to an 18-12 start, but their bullpen could use some help. If they do not want to make a trade, there is still an intriguing free agent option available.
David Robertson spent part of the 2022 season with the Chicago Cubs. He had a 2.23 ERA in 36 games for the team. He pitched for the Texas Rangers last season and had a 3.00 ERA. He is still a free agent, surprisingly, and Newsweek's Andrew Wright suggested the Cubs sign him.
"A relief pitcher with 15 years of experience and a career ERA under a 3.00 still being a free agent doesn't make much sense," wrote Wright. "So many teams could use the services of Robertson, yet nobody has picked up him yet. The Cubs need to swallow their pride and reach out to the veteran right-hander. Robertson has spent time with the Cubs in previous seasons and looked good doing it."
The Cubs' bullpen has the fifth-worst ERA in baseball. Even with their bullpen boasting a 4.81 ERA, they are leading the National League Central. If they address the bullpen woes, they could become a real threat in the National League.
Robertson is a low-risk addition. Spotrac projects him to sign a one-year, $7 million deal, but he may be willing to take less just to get a chance.

In the last three seasons, he has a 2.82 ERA in 188 appearances. He has also notched 40 saves in that span. He was once an All-Star for the New York Yankees. While he may not be that player anymore, he can still be a valuable player for the Cubs.
