Aaron Glenn is coming home to the New York Jets, and the hope, reportedly, is that he decides to stay awhile.

The former Jets' Pro Bowl cornerback, who has spent the last four seasons as the Detroit Lions' defensive coordinator, is interviewing for New York's head coaching vacancy on Tuesday, according to NFL Network insider Ian Rapoport.

"A monumental day: Top target Aaron Glenn visits the #Jets & the goal is to keep him from leaving the building, sources say. The deal isn’t done & there are still some particulars to discuss. But if all goes well, he could end today as HC of the NYJ," said Rapoport in an early-morning post on the social media site now known as X.

The 52-year-old Glenn is considered a hot coaching candidate as a result of his contributions to the Lions' resurrection from a three-win team to back-to-back NFC North titles. Detroit offensive coordinator Ben Johnson has reportedly agreed to become the next Chicago Bears' head coach.

Glenn's stock, however, has seemingly dropped slightly following Detroit's disappointing divisional round loss to the Washington Commanders as the defense surrendered 45 points to a rookie quarterback-led opponent.

Glenn is also considered a serious candidate to land the New Orleans Saints' head coaching position. The Jets' 1994 first-round draft pick spent his final NFL season as a player with a the Saints in 2008.

After being drafted No. 12 overall, Glenn spent his first eight pro seasons with Gang Green. He totaled 24 interceptions, five forced fumbles and six fumble recoveries over his Jets' tenure, which featured Pro Bowl appearances in 1997 and 1998 under head coach Bill Parcells.

For his career, Glenn played in 205 regular season games and made 41 interceptions.

New York fired Robert Saleh after the first five games in 2024. Interim head coach Jeff Ulbrich interviewed for the Jets' job last week, but has since accepted the defensive coordinator spot with the Atlanta Falcons.
