Shedeurs Sanders’ appearance blamed for NFL Draft slide to Browns after legendary Colorado career image

Cam Newton was once the No. 1 overall pick, so he doesn't quite know what an NFL Draft slide is like.

That didn't stop him from assigning some blame recently to why Shedeur Sanders dropped in the draft last weekend all the way to No. 144 overall and the Cleveland Browns.

Newton blamed the way Sanders looks when speaking on his 4th & 1 podcast.

"Shedeur, I've got to hold him accountable," Newton said. "He's always got this mean look on his face, like he's snobbish. You know what I'm saying?"

There is something to be said for entering a room with a smile, yes.

But it's also tough to believe that 143 picks when by in the 2025 NFL Draft without Sanders being taken just because of his resting face.

Newton did also offer his sympathies to Sanders after a tough weekend.

"I felt so bad for Shedeur," Newton said.. "You think about what the NFL draft is: this is probably the only moment in American history where minorities turn millionaires in a day. At least 100, 200, potentially even 300 individuals are going to become or change the dynamic of their family's lineage off of one day. And somebody playing with you - what does an apology do? I was publicly embarrassed."

This is all just the latest small piece in the Sanders saga.

He'd surely love it for people to just start talking about what happens moving forward. Maybe every show in the country needs to discuss in-depth details about the Browns' QB battle between Sanders, Joe Flacco, Kenny Pickett and Dillon Gabriel.

The NFL season will be here soon enough, and Sanders will be talked about no matter the role he ends up with. Guess we should just get used to it.
