Jannik Sinner and Carlos Alcaraz are set to re-ignite their rivalry in the Eternal City after they battled into the final of the Italian Open.
Local hero Sinner, playing his first tournament since serving a three-month doping ban, overcame a slow start against USA's Tommy Paul to win 1-6, 6-0, 6-3. Earlier in the day, Alcaraz silenced the Italian crowd with a hard-fought 6-3, 7-6 win over Lorenzo Musetti.
The Italian Open is the final ATP 1000 Masters event on clay before the French Open, which gets underway next weekend.
This will be the 11th meeting between Sinner and Alcaraz, the leaders of the new generation. The 22-year-old Spaniard has a slight 6-4 edge in their head-to-head series.
