For each day that Aaron Rodgers doesn't sign with the Pittsburgh Steelers, another uncertainty is added to their quarterback question.
They currently only have Mason Rudolph and Skylar Thompson under contract.
It feels like, one way or the other, Pittsburgh has to end up with a more-established veteran QB in its building.
Rodgers is the logical guy, but he is playing hard to get. So the Steelers might have to find an alternative.
Steelers beat writer Gerry Dulac thinks that other option should be Kirk Cousins.
"I will tell you that is a part of the thought process," Dulac said. "The question would be: How much would the Falcons try to hold up the Steelers for Kirk Cousins? A 36-37-year-old guy, the Steelers are certainly not going to invest a lot in terms of maybe draft capital to get Kirk Cousins. But that would be a possibility. I think it would be somewhere between possible and slim."

The chances surely rise if Rodgers does indeed turn down the Steelers for another team or for retirement.
Cousins isn't a perfect solution, as he's coming off a league-worst 16 interceptions in 2024.
But there also aren't that many choices left for the Steelers.
They still have the option to draft someone like Shedeur Sanders or Jaxson Dart and sit them to learn behind Rudolph, but that greatly lowers Pittsburgh's chances of being a winning team in 2025.
Rodgers still seems like the best outcome, but the Steelers have certainly spent the last month-plus planning for all sorts of alternative options. Cousins appears to be one of them.
