Carmelo Anthony is going back where his basketball career really took off.

The Syracuse and NBA legend just accepted a leadership position at his alma mater, Oak Hill Academy.

Anthony will be the co-general manager of the Oak Hill program, it was announced Monday.

At the basketball powerhouse, 'Melo has already made his first hire in tandem with co-GM Bay Frazier.

Together, they've named John Zito the new head coach of the Oak Hill Gold team. Zito previously coached Team Melo, the AAU program run by Anthony, and has coached at the John Carroll School and as an assistant at UMBC.

This is Anthony following a recent trend that has seen Steph Curry, Trae Young and Terrance Mann all take assistant GM roles at their collegiate basketball programs.

Anthony is one of the great players in Oak Hill history.

It's where Syracuse assistant Troy Weaver, himself with Baltimore connections, first saw 'Melo. It didn't take long for Weaver to bring Jim Boeheim along.

And soon enough, Anthony was the best freshman in the country and leading Syracuse to the 2003 national title, its only championship, before leaving one-and-done for the NBA and the Denver Nuggets.

When Anthony was at Oak Hill, he played a famous, nationally televised game against LeBron James and Saint Vincent-Saint Mary on ESPN2.

Anthony is a busy guy. He'll be a studio analyst for NBC's NBA coverage starting next season.

He'll also surely be at most of Syracuse's games as his son, Kiyan, enrolls as a freshman with the program.

This is just one more step for Anthony staying involved with the game and the places that he loves.
