The Boston Red Sox are now shifting their focus to acquiring Atlanta Braves superstar ace Max Fried, per Bob Nightengale. This comes after they lost San Francisco Giants two-time Cy Young Blake Snell to the L.A. Dodgers. Snell’s new contract with them is five-years, $182 million dollars.
The Sox really need to get Fried. Snell was one of three free agent aces the Sox were targeting, and they planned on getting two of the three. The other was Corbin Burnes, who is also a Cy Young.
This past season, Fried started 29 games, posted a record 11-10, and obtained an ERA of 3.25 and 166 strikeouts. Burnes posted a 2.92 ERA with a 15-9 record, and 181 strikeouts in 32 games. His K/9 was 8.4, and his BB/9 was 2.2.
Another huge win would be to land Juan Soto. If they can land him, losing Snell would be totally fine, as they can get a franchise player for a decade in Soto.
Hopefully, they sign Fried, Burnes and Soto or a righty slugger, and the Sox can chalk this offseason up as a huge win.
