It's right about this time that a hitting streak becomes really worth paying attention to.
Kansas City Royals superstar Bobby Witt Jr. is absolutely locked in at the plate.
On Wednesday night, Witt lined a hard single into right field to extend his consecutive games with a hit streak to 21.
The last game Witt didn't get a hit came on April 7.

Since then, he is 26-for-73 (.356) with nine doubles, a homer, six steals and a solid 9:12 walk-to-strikeout ratio.
It's the longest hitting streak of Witt's career.
There's something magical about baseball hitting streaks, of which Joe DiMaggio's 56 is still the gold standard.

Baseball is the ultimate show-up-and-work-every-day sport.
A hitting streak is sort of the on-field encapsulation of that. Maybe some days it's a 1-for-4, but it's at least one time you get the job done, every day.
There's no telling how long Witt can take this. He's helped by his superhuman speed and his hard-contact abilities.
But baseball is also a game of luck and flukes. So who knows?
The fun part is that it's happening right now for Witt. And as long as the streak is alive, the baseball gods are smiling down on him. It'd be cool to see that smile continue for a few more weeks.
