The Kansas City Chiefs failed to three-peat as Super Bowl champions last season. Travis Kelce's future was a talking point for a while, but he has decided to keep playing. However, an end could be near, and the Chiefs need to start thinking about their future.

The Chiefs could try and draft a tight end, but what if there was already a league-ready tight end available through trade? FanSided's Matt Conner suggested the Chiefs could trade for Michael Mayer of the Las Vegas Raiders.

"The financial aspect is appealing here for the Chiefs. Mayer is still on a rookie contract, which would allow K.C. to bring in a potential long-term contributor without compromising cap flexibility," wrote Conner. "And while Las Vegas may hesitate to deal with a division rival, it's not unprecedented for a franchise to make a pragmatic move when the value is right."

Mayer was a second-round pick in 2023. As a rookie, he had 304 yards and two touchdowns. His second-year breakout was prevented when the Raiders drafted superstar tight end Brock Bowers.

Bowers' first season proved he has the potential to be the best tight end in the league, making Mayer less valuable for the Raiders. The Chiefs could trade for Mayer and allow him to learn from Kelce, who could very well be in his final season.

"The Chiefs can always turn to the 2025 NFL Draft to add to the mix, and that would give them a young player on a four-year deal, so perhaps that's the right way to go," wrote Conner. "But if K.C. could get away with waiting until day three of the draft, it would be interesting to see if Vegas would sell low on a former day two pick to the Chiefs. That would allow Brett Veach to address other positions early and still address tight end with a high-value asset."
