Saturday Night's Main Event begins at 8 p.m. ET on December 14. It is in the Nassau Veterans Memorial Coliseum on Long Island, New York, the location of the first event. The former home of the New York Islanders can hold up to 15,000 people.

An original TV special, Saturday Night's Main Event was a ratings hit when WWE and NBC first teamed up in 1985. The first few events saw Hulk Hogan defend the then-WWF Title against Bob Orton, Nikolai Volkoff, and Terry Funk. After a hiatus, WWE brought it back for a few special events before its current deal with NBC and Peacock expanded that.

Dusty Rhodes competed at a few of the events. His son Cody defends the Undisputed WWE Title against Kevin Owens.

Owens helped Rhodes beat Roman Reigns at WrestleMania to win the Undisputed WWE Title after years of The Bloodline running wild. Reigns disappeared but returned to take on Solo Sikoa and the New Bloodline. Rhodes later teamed with Reigns at WWE Bad Blood, which upset Owens.

Turning on partner Randy Orton, Owens also attacked Rhodes in a parking lot following Bad Blood. While considered the heel in the feud, Owens said Rhodes lost his way after teaming with Reigns. Now, they settle their differences, with gold also on the line.

Also on the card, Iyo Sky, who won a battle royal to become a top contender, cashes in and challenges Liv Morgan for the Women's World Title. Meanwhile, Gunther defends the World Heavyweight Title against Finn Balor and Damian Priest. Balor helped Gunther beat Damian Priest at Survivor Series, and now those two will continue their feud, with Gunther and gold added to the mix.

Sami Zayn faces a returning Drew McIntyre. Finally, the finals to determine the first WWE Women's United States Champion takes place at the event.
