Broncos predicted to trade for former second-round tight end following NFL Draft image

The Denver Broncos signed Evan Engram in free agency to a roster that was starving for a big-play tight end this offseason. But did signing Engram, entering his age-31 season, eliminate all of the team's issues? Some still see it as a potential weak spot for the Broncos, who added a tight end in the draft who was predominantly a basketball player during his college career.

Anthony Palacios of Last Word on Sports sees a potential chance for the team to become double strong at the position due to the results of the draft. The Chicago Bears selected Colston Loveland with the No. 10 overall pick in the draft. Cole Kmet, who has been productive in Chicago, could become trade bait in the eyes of Palacios.

He lists the Broncos as a team the Bears could call if they are looking to move their former second-round pick.

"The Denver Broncos are ahead of schedule in their quest for a Super Bowl. After making the playoffs with a rookie quarterback in Bo Nix, Sean Payton’s squad must maximize the window presented by having a franchise quarterback on a rookie contract. Tight end is one of the few weaknesses remaining on this roster, and a security blanket like Kmet should complement Nix’s strengths. Seeing as they play in what might be the NFL’s hardest division, Denver must acquire as much win-now talent as they possibly can", wrote Palacios.

It's hard to call tight end a weakness after the Broncos landed Engram. Sure, they could use more depth, but it's not a weak spot. However, if the Broncos were to trade for Kmet, it would give Payton a legitimate two-tight end threat and he could really make life difficult on defenses with that approach.

Of course, the Bears may see that same approach as extremely attractive for their young quarterback, Caleb Williams, and may have no plans to trade Loveland at all.

In five seasons with the Bears, Loveland has caught 253 passes for 2,566 yards and 18 touchdowns.
