Texas did just about everything right on Saturday.
The offense crushed, the pitching dazzled and fielders made big-time plays to lead No. 1 Texas to a 10-0 victory against No. 4 Florida.
The Longhorns made it a quick one, too, wrapping the game up in five innings thanks to the NCAA's mercy rule. If a team leads by eight or more runs after five innings, the game is over. It just gives the Longhorns some extra rest before their Monday game.
Alyssa Washington rocked a three-run home run in the first inning to give Texas a 5-0 lead. The offense slowed down until two outs in the bottom of the fourth inning.
Katie Stewart smoked a three-run home run as a part of Texas' seven consecutive base runners with two outs. The onslaught set the Longhorns up for the mercy rule in the next half-inning.
Mac Morgan nearly pitched a no-hitter, albeit in five innings. She allowed one hit in the top of the fifth and a walk earlier but was otherwise flawless, tying her season-high with five strikeouts.
Florida sent out four pitchers, with starter Keagan Rothrock throwing just 14 pitches before the coach pulled her.
The Gators aren't eliminated as this is just their first loss of the 2024 Women's College World Series. They will play No. 14 Alabama on Sunday, June 2 at 3 p.m. Texas will play the winner of No. 6 UCLA/No. 8 Stanford on Monday, June 3 at 7 p.m.
