The Los Angeles Chargers were heavily connected to Michigan tight end Colston Loveland in the 2025 NFL Draft. Not only was the team in dire need of another tight end, but Loveland helped Jim Harbaugh win a national championship at Michigan.

Would the Chargers have selected Loveland over Omarion Hampton at No. 22? We'll never know, as Loveland was surprisingly chosen by the Chicago Bears with the 10th overall pick in the draft. The Bears took Loveland despite already having Cole Kmet on the roster, leaving some to wonder what Kmet's future in Chicago looks like.

David Latham of Last Word on Sports asked that question and he sees Kmet being moved by the Bears this offseason, potentially to the Chargers.

"Jim Harbaugh is an old-school coach who wants to win games in the trenches, but he must do something to improve Justin Herbert’s life. While second-round pick Ladd McConkey is a good player, he’s the only reliable set of hands on the offense. Cole Kmet would easily be the best tight end on this roster, and the Colston Loveland selection means the Bears should be willing to strike a deal with an AFC contender", wrote Latham.

The Chargers signed Tyler Conklin in free agency and used a fifth-round pick on Oronde Gadsden II out of Syracuse. Though Kmet would be an instant upgrade to the tight end room, there is a chance that the Chargers are satisfied with what they have.

Will Dissly is the team's blocking tight end, Conklin is a veteran option who can block and catch passes down the field and Gadsden has the ability to be a huge steal for the team.

Kmet was a second-round pick for the Bears in 2020 who is still only 26 years old. He's also been productive, catching 258 passes for 2,592 yards and 19 touchdowns. The Bears would likely take nothing less than a third or fourth-round pick in exchange for Kmet, and that could be seen as too much to pay.

In addition, the Bears may like the idea of giving a young Caleb Williams the luxury of having two capable tight ends and aren't even entertaining the idea of moving Kmet. In fact, that's likely.

It's a good idea on paper, but one we won't likely see come to fruition.
