As the MLB offseason continues, the Boston Red Sox still need to address their rotation, which could use at least one more top-end starter before Spring Training.

While Boston certainly has the young talent on the roster and in the same, as well as the money to throw around, they still need to make a smart decision. And, with asking prices increasing, chief baseball officer Craig Breslow must know when it's OK to not go further.

That may end up being the case with the Chicago White Sox and starting pitcher Garrett Crochet, according to The Athletic's Jim Bowden.

"Based on what the White Sox are saying, I think a package of Casas, Abreu and Connor Wong probably gets close to landing Crochet," Bowden wrote. "The Red Sox could then replace Abreu with prospect Roman Anthony in right field, replace Wong with Kyle Teel at catcher, move Devers to first base and sign either Alex Bregman or Willy Adames in free agency."

In this scenario, Boston would be giving up three bats who were starters for their club in 2024 and two who could be long-term franchise cornerstones.

Crochet was impressive in 2024, his lone year as a starter. He posted a 3.58 ERA, 1.068 WHIP and a 12.9 K/9 in 146 innings over 32 starts which was good enough to earn All-Star honors.

Still, giving up one of the best first basemen in the league (when healthy), a 2024 Rookie of the Year candidate and a competent starting catcher seems like quite a bit to start with.
