More fallout continues to pile up for the recently drafted Cleveland Browns quarterback Shedeur Sanders in the days following his now-infamous NFL draft fifth-round selection, instead of his initial projection.
While many football pundits, including Fox Sports' Colin Cowherd, have spoken out against Sanders, former NFL Hall of Fame wideout Cris Carter got to the root of why Sanders was selected as late as he was.
During an episode of the "Fully Loaded" podcast, Carter pulled no punches when discussing the Sanders saga.
"Shedeur and his family, they overplayed their hand," Carter said in reference to Sanders getting his ideal fit. "Them thinking he was in the same evaluation mode as Eli Manning, they didn't play that right."
Carter said another issue that may come back to haunt Sanders is his antics. Carter recognized Sanders is too focused on his personal brand rather than being coachable, directly referencing the now-viral interaction with No. 1 overall selection Cam Ward.

"Well, you don't play football all the time," Carter said. "You're a human being the rest of the time. How you're gonna be in the locker room, how he already came up with this line of merchandise "LEGENDARY." Like, he's already calling himself legendary. All those things are problems. Right now, he's working check-to-check, man."
It's unclear how well-received Sanders will be in Cleveland and even less whether he lives up to expectations.
For now, the Sanders saga rolls on.
Either way, he'll remain a hot topic throughout the rest of the off-season as the August preseason draws closer.
Regardless, Sanders may get the last laugh to prove the doubters wrong. Now, he has to earn his stripes.
