The Los Angeles Kings have been on the brink of greatness for three straight seasons, ultimately losing to Connor McDavid and the Edmonton Oilers in the first round of the past three NHL Playoffs. Could this be the year that LA finally gets over the hump?
It's very possible, as Jim Hiller's Kings have a plethora of talent on both ends of the ice. It won't be easy to shoulder an injury to top defenseman Drew Doughty, expected out for 3-4 months, but betting odds still project LA as about a 55 to 62 percent favorite to make the postseason once again this year.
It doesn't hurt that LA has 22-year-old Quinton Byfield coming off a breakout 55-point year, or that Adrian Kempe, Kevin Fiale and Anže Kopitar all logged 70-plus points in 2023-24. The Kings had five players who finished with 20-plus goals last year, and a whopping nine who had at least 12.

Los Angeles kicked off its 2024-25 NHL season on October 10 at Buffalo. Two weeks later, the Kings will have their home opener against San Jose.
