The USA is a betting favorite over Germany in Sunday's women's soccer action at the 2024 Olympics. BetMGM prices the USWNT at +115 odds, with Germany offered as the +210 underdog, and the draw +225.
The US got off to a strong start in Paris, winning comfortably over Zambia in a 3-0 shutout on Thursday. It was an anticipated result, as Zambia came into the tournament with the longest odds to win gold of any team.
Germany also recorded a 3-0 victory, but did so against a much better opponent in Australia.

The Germans need their offense to stay hot against the US to have a chance to pull off the upset. Against Australia, Germany got goals from three players: Marina Hegering (24'), Lea Schüller (64'), and Jule Brand (68'). Those three braces came on just four shots on goal while the Germans attempted 17.
Trinity Rodman scored once (17'), and Mallory Swanson tallied twice (24', 25') for the USWNT. All three goals came in the first half, and the squad coasted for much of the second half and used five subs.

United States betting news and analysis
The USWNT came out hot and showed that while they are young, there is still plenty of talent, which is why they came into the Olympics as the gold medal favorites. Even though there is a lot of youth on the squad, five players have 90+ caps. Four of them -- Lindsey Horan, Rose Lavelle, Crystal Dunn and Mallory Swanson -- started, while Emily Sonnett subbed in during the second half.
In many ways, the US did what it was supposed to in its opener, dominating a lesser opponent, but the young forwards showed flashes that can be replicated against better opponents. Rodman's goal was spectacular, and Horan's midfield play was excellent. Not much was needed from goalie Alyssa Naeher, who recorded her third shutout in a row for the United States.

Germany betting news and analysis
The Germans were just slight favorites over the Aussies, and not many expected a blow out. Next up is a game that could be one of the best in Olympic group play.
The Germans came into the Olympics at No. 4 in FIFA's world rankings, one spot higher than the USA. The betting odds tell a different story, as the USWNT are favored in the futures market. After their impressive win over Australia, though, Germany's odds have tightened, from +1200 to +900 at BetMGM.
It looks like this squad is not afraid to take shots from anywhere, which will keep Naeher on her toes, especially if the Germans can get more on frame. The German defense will have its hands full with a dangerous US counterattack.

United States vs. Germany prediction
This is a great test for the USWNT and is easily the biggest game under Emma Hayes's leadership so far. Hayes was brought in for matches like this, where the USA is the better team and should win, but has to play well to do so. They didn't do that in last year's World Cup.
Hayes will have this squad ready, and while the match may be tight, expect a strong performance and a win for the Stars & Stripes.
Prediction: USA
