The Baltimore Ravens had a busy weekend, selecting 11 players during the 2025 NFL Draft.
The team didn't have many needs on paper entering the draft, but the Ravens did well to address the needs they did have.
For example, the team added solid safety Malaki Starks in the first round and he should be a solid running mate for Kyle Hamilton. In the second round, the team stopped the fall of edge-rusher Mike Green, giving the team another young pass-rusher to add to the rotation.
Other notable selections for the team included offensive lineman Emery Jones Jr., linebacker Teddye Buchanan and wide receiver LaJohntay Wester, among others.
However, there is one draft pick who appears to be primed to make the biggest impact as a rookie. Gavino Borquez of Newsweek thinks Green could be the team's most impactful rookie in 2025, and one of the most impactful rookies in the AFC North.
Green is a dominant edge-rusher who has NFL size and speed. The defender made easy work of lesser competition in the Sun Belt and rocketed up draft boards this offseason. Borquez offered the following analysis:
The Ravens did select safety Malaki Starks in the first round. While Starks does have an easy path to the starting lineup, his life is only going to be easier on the backend of the defense with pressure on opposing quarterbacks, which Green will be the one supplying. It might have been a bit of a surprise that Green fell in the draft, so this was a steal for Baltimore. Green will play behind Kyle Van Noy and Odafe Oweh, but his services will be put to good use, and his pass-rush prowess should translate to this level. The former Marshall product's 51 quarterback pressures were tied for sixth-most in the FBS.
Green was undoubtedly one of the best edge-rusher prospects in 2025. However, the defender fell due to some troubling allegations, but the Ravens have insisted that they did "due diligence" on the player.
On the field, though, there's little doubt about Green. The defender racked up 84 tackles, 23 tackles for loss, and 17 sacks for Marshall in 2024. Green's 17 sacks were the most in the entire FBS.
The Ravens actually collected quite a few sacks in 2024, but veteran Kyle Van Noy had 12.5 of those. Van Noy is still around, but it's probably not wise to expect the 34-year-old to replicate that production in 2025.
As Borquez mentioned, the team has Odafe Oweh, as well, who flashed with 10 sacks of his own last year. A future pass-rush duo of Oweh and Green has to have the Ravens' front office excited.
