Cowboys named biggest loser of NFL offseason for 2 reasons image

The Dallas Cowboys are in a tough division.

The NFC East is led now by defending Super Bowl champion Philadelphia and also features on-the-rise Washington.

The Cowboys needed to have a strong offseason to keep up.

But they didn't. Instead, Bleacher Report named Dallas as the "biggest loser" in the offseason competition among NFC East teams.

They cited two reasons.

The first was head coach, where Brian Schottenheimer replaces Mike McCarthy.

"One can argue that the Cowboys downgraded from McCarthy to a far less accomplished replacement in Brian Schottenheimer, who will be a full-time head coach for the first time in his career," writes B/R.

Then there's the matter of letting top running back Rico Dowdle get away only to replace him with underwhelming veterans Javonte Williams and Miles Sanders and rookie draft picks Jaydon Blue and Phil Mafah.

"If quarterback Dak Prescott avoids the injury bug, the Cowboys should be a better team than last year's group with backup signal-caller Cooper Rush under center. However, he may not have much help from the ground game, and his inexperienced head coach will need to find an offensive balance," B/R writes.

The Cowboys are always going to be one of the most talked-about teams in the NFL. That will lead to natural doubters.

It's up to Dallas to deny those doubters and win a bunch of football games.
