Giants’ reported interest in Colorado Buffs football legend Shedeur Sanders written off as ‘alternate history’ image

Positive press on Colorado Buffaloes football legend Shedeur Sanders finally appeared after his infamous slide to the Cleveland Browns in the fifth round of the 2025 NFL draft. Apparently, the Giants were interested in taking the “Grown QB” in the event Jaxson Dart wasn’t on the board.

New York ended up drafting Dart at No. 25.

NJ.com’s Ryan Novozinsky wrote off the Giants’ reported interest in Sanders as merely “alternate history.”

The NFL Network’s Ian Rappoport shared the initial report, which reads as Sanders’ new representation finally figuring out how to craft a narrative.

“Jaxson Dart the player probably gives them more options, more different directions, more dynamic ways they could run this offense. And, yeah, the hope is that he’s the quarterback of the future,” Rappoport wrote.

“What we talked about pre-draft, Tom, was for the Giants, as they were debating to take a quarterback at three, thought it was maybe Shedeur Sanders. I do believe, had Dart not been there for the Giants, trading up for Shedeur Sanders was very much a possibility, something they were absolutely thinking about.”

Brian Daboll’s meeting with Sanders was reportedly a disaster. If what was reported on that is true, there’s not a chance New York had Coach Prime’s youngest son on the board.

Dart, meanwhile, figures to be patient waiting at least a year until Russell Wilson and/or Jameis Winston get their turn at the helm of the offense. Tommy DeVito still looms as an outside threat to the ex-Ole Miss Rebel’s chances of getting snaps.

Dart has the time, and likely the patience, to wait and develop.

It’s unclear if Shedeur and Coach Prime possess those things.

Ipso facto, there’s probably no reason to think Rappoport’s report holds much weight with the draft in the rearview mirror.
