Liverpool vs. Everton live score: Premier League result, updates, stats from Anfield Merseyside derby image

Liverpool are closing in on the Premier League title but local pride is at stake against Everton at Anfield.

Arne Slot's runaway league leaders were pegged back to a 2-2 draw by their neighbours when James Tarkowski smashed home an incredible 98th-minute equaliser in the final Merseyside derby at Goodison Park.

This is Liverpool's first match since widespread reports emerged claiming homegrown star Trent Alexander-Arnold has agreed to join Real Madrid when his contract expires at the end of this season.

Liverpool vs. Everton live updates, highlights, and commentary

1 hr 15 mins before kickoff: Here's the Liverpool team. It could be another interesting Merseyside derby for Curtis Jones, who starts at right-back in the absence of Trent Alexander-Arnold, Joe Gomez and Conor Bradley. Jarell Quansah is on the bench. Alisson hasn't recovered from the concussion he suffered on international duty with Brazil, which means Caoimhin Kelleher starts in goal.

1 hr 30 mins before kickoff: It will be interesting to see how high passions run tonight, given that combustile Goodison clash was only seven weeks ago. Arne Slot earned himself a touchline bad, while Abdoulaye Doucoure and Curtis Jones got themselves sent off after instigating a brawl. Never mind the game, I'm quite looking forward to the pre-match handshakes.

2 hours before kickoff: Hello and welcome to The Sporting News' live coverage of the 246th Merseyside derby at Anfield. The previous encounter at Goodison Park was a drama-filled instant classic. More of the same, please!

Liverpool vs. Everton lineups, team news

Alisson was sent home from international duty early after suffering a concussion in Brazil's win over Colombia. The goalkeeper has trained with his team-mates and faces a late check. Ryan Gravenberch is available after pulling out of the Netherlands squad, reportedly just as a precaution. Joe Gomez is out until at least the end of April.

Conor Bradley is back in training following a muscle injury that brought his strong first senior season to a screeching halt, and he could have a new contract to mark his return. With Trent Alexander-Arnold also sidelined for a number of weeks while his potential exit for Real Madrid plays out, Jarell Quansah could continue at right-back if Bradley's not quite ready.

Cody Gakpo is back from injury and should take over up front, seeing Diogo Jota and Darwin Nunez back to the bench.

Liverpool predicted lineup (4-3-3, right to left): Alisson (GK) — Quansah, Konate, Van Dijk, Robertson — Gravenberch, Mac Allister — Salah, Szoboszlai, Diaz — Gakpo

Liverpool subs: Matchday squads released one hour and 15 minutes before kickoff

Everton are nearing a return to collective full fitness, with Dwight McNeil and Ilman Ndiaye all close to being available again. McNeil has returned to training and should be available.

Beto opened the scoring when the sides met in February and is likely to continue at centre-forward with Dominic Calvert-Lewin (hamstring) still out with midfielder Oriel Mangala (knee).

Jarrad Branthwaite will be out to prove the doubters wrong after controversially being left out of the England squad this past international break.

Vitalii Mykolenko suffered a thigh injury when he was away with Ukraine but has also returned to training. Ashley YoungSeamus Coleman or Nathan Patterson are alternatives at left-back

Everton predicted lineup (4-2-3-1, right to left): Pickford (GK) — O'Brien, Tarkowski, Branthwaite, Mykolenko — Gueye, Garner — Harrison, Doucoure, Alcaraz — Beto
