The San Francisco 49ers' 2024 season was disappointing, finishing with a 6-11 record. Kicker Jake Moody was one of the players who had a rough season.
Moody appeared in 14 games, making 24 out of 34 field goals after making 21 out of 25 in his rookie season in 2023.
The 49ers need better production from the kicking game this season if they want to make the playoffs, and Niners Nation writer Rohan Chakravarthi thinks the team could add kicker Zane Gonzalez.
"The 49ers acknowledged that they probably would add veteran competition at kicker back at the end of the season while providing confidence in Jake Moody," Chakravarthi wrote. "While Moody faced injuries last year, the 49ers need much better results at kicker than they got in 2024. They’re bringing in rookie kicker Kenny Almendares for a tryout, and he could end up being the main competition for Moody. But, a veteran would also be welcomed into the conversation and strengthen the competition at the position. There are a number of available options, including Zane Gonzalez."
Gonzalez has appeared in 69 games in only six seasons since 2017 and was released from the Washington Commanders in late April. In 2023, the 49ers traded for the 29-year-old kicker, but he was cut from the team before playing in the regular season.

Gonzalez would be a nice player to bring into the training camp and see how far he can push Moody, and could even be an option for the practice squad.
