"OKC, KFC, UFC, Lakers in 5" is one of many comical rhymes NBA analyst Shannon Sharpe came up with about the Los Angeles Lakers prior to their first-round series against the Minnesota Timberwolves.
Sharpe's catchy predictions aged poorly, as the Timberwolves eliminated LeBron James, Luka Doncic, and the Lakers in Game 5 on Wednesday. Timberwolves superstar Anthony Edwards is never one to shy away from mocking or trolling those who doubt him, which included Sharpe postgame.
A video was recorded of Edwards in the tunnel after the victory, saying, "Ant-Man, Batman, Spider-Man, Lakers in 5!"
Not only does Edwards create plenty of headlines and highlights off the court, but he is also one of the NBA's premier superstars on it.
The 23-year-old had quite the unique performance to close out the series, as he recorded 15 points, 11 rebounds, 8 assists, and 3 steals, but shot 26.3% and 0 of 11 from three-point range. This inefficient outing from Edwards was the perfect chance for the Lakers to extend the series, but center Rudy Gobert took full advantage of L.A.'s lack of frontcourt strength.
Gobert finished with 27 points. 24 rebounds and 2 blocks on 12 of 15 shooting in 39 minutes. If it wasn't for this surprisingly level of play from Gobert and an efficient game from forward Julius Randle, chances are Edwards would not be mocking Sharpe's take so soon.
