Former Enzo Maresca favourite joins Chelsea transfer exodus as Everton link emerges image

Enzo Maresca might have a bittersweet relationship with the Chelsea fans at the moment, but he certainly seems to have the backing of his players.

But being on good terms with the manager may not be enough to secure first-team football at the club.

According to a report in the Chelsea Chronicle, Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall could already be heading for the exit door.

Though the midfielder only arrived at Stamford Bridge last summer, he has grown frustrated with the lack of first-team opportunities offered to him by Maresca this season.

The Englishman has made just two Premier League starts for Chelsea this season, as opposed to when Maresca heavily relied on his presence during their time together at Leicester City.

TEAMtalk has revealed that Everton made an approach for the Englishman during the January transfer window and could be back for him in the summer.

Why a move away from Chelsea makes sense for Dewsbury-Hall

At 26 years of age, Dewsbury-Hall is about to enter the peak of his career, and his ambition for more game time is completely understandable.

Given how stacked the Chelsea squad is at the moment, it is unlikely that he will get too many opportunities in the first team.

Additionally, the imminent arrivals of Andrey Santos and Dario Essugo will likely see him fall further down the pecking order at Stamford Bridge.

But despite the player’s lack of game time this season, he still has a constant admirer in the form of former Chelsea player Joe Cole.

Speaking about Dewsburry-Hall earlier this year, Cole said, “He’s too good a player to be playing 10, 15 games at his age… He needs to play football because he’s such a good, talented footballer.”

Given the situation at Chelsea and Dewsburry-Hall’s ambition to play regular first-team football, a move away from Stamford Bridge may well be best for both parties.
