Chargers predicted to trade backup offensive lineman in package to acquire top-tier tight end image

There is a growing belief that the Baltimore Ravens could be ready to move on from tight end Mark Andrews. Words out of the mouth of their general manager, Eric DeCosta, only poured more fuel on that fire

The Los Angeles Chargers have been a team tied to all of the potential rumors of the Ravens moving Andrews this offseason. It makes plenty of sense. The Harbaugh brothers have similar interests in players and that was evident when Jim brought in several former Ravens players in his first year with the Chargers.

Having Greg Roman as offensive coordinator in L.A. makes Andrews a natural fit there as he played in Roman's offense when he was in Baltimore.

Moe Moton of Bleacher Report put together several trade packages for teams to acquire Andrews from Baltimore, and he has the Chargers parting with a player and a draft pick in order to grab the 29-year-old tight end.

Chargers receive: TE Mark Andrews
Ravens receive: OL Jamaree Salyer, 2025 fourth-round pick (No. 125 overall)

"In free agency, the Los Angeles Chargers signed Tyler Conklin. With him and Will Dissly, Los Angeles has a decent tight end duo, but neither player provides anything particularly special in the passing game.

Andrews, a three-time Pro Bowler with two double-digit touchdown seasons, can be a clutch playmaker in the aerial attack.

Furthermore, Andrews achieved most of those accolades in Greg Roman's offense between 2019 and 2022. So, he would fit the Chargers offense like a glove.

Roman and Andrews can pick up where they left off when the decorated tight end had his last Pro Bowl campaign in 2022.

Quarterback Justin Herbert would have a target he can rely on inside the 20-yard line, which is vital for the Chargers, who finished 18th in red-zone scoring percentage last season.

From the Ravens' perspective, Jamaree Salyer could spell oft-injured Ronnie Stanley at left tackle if needed. He has experience at the position. Salyer can also challenge Andrew Voorhees for the open guard spot or provide depth at that position on both sides of the line", wrote Moton.

That could be seen as a steep price as Jamaree Salyer is still a young player at 24 years old. The former sixth-round pick has also already made 31 starts in the NFL, so he may be tough for Harbaugh to part with.

Andrews' resume dictates a team paying up to get him. He's been selected to three Pro Bowls, has 436 career receptions and has scored 51 touchdowns. He's considered one of the top tight ends in the league and would add a completely different dimension to the Chargers' offense.

The Chargers could see how things go in the first round of the draft, where they are widely considered to select Michigan tight end Colston Loveland if he's still available, but if he gets selected before they can grab him, this could be the kind of move the team could consider.
