The Las Vegas Raiders have to be ecstatic with how the 2025 NFL draft played out. The team was able to secure one of the top overall talents with the No. 6 overall pick in star running back Ashton Jeanty.
Jeanty should immediately transform what was the league's worst ground game last season.
However, Jeanty revealed that he was one of several players who received a prank call on draft night. Prank calling draft picks is a disturbing new trend, with several players receiving these calls in 2025.
Abdul Carter, Mason Graham, Tyler Warren, Kyle McCord, Chase Lundt, and Shedeur Sanders are some of the players who reportedly received prank calls during the draft.
The most notable case was a call involving Atlanta Falcons defensive coordinator Jeff Ulbrich's son and Sanders. The Falcons and Ulbrich both received heavy fines as a result.
In an interview with FanSided, Jeanty revealed that he received one of these calls after being selected by the Raiders, but he didn't fall for it because of how dumb it was.
"Some dude called me, he was like, 'Yeah, we just traded with the Raiders and you're coming to the Cowboys,' and I just hung up, bro," explained Jeanty.
At least in Jeanty's case, he had already talked to the Raiders and been selected. Most of the players received these calls well before they were actually drafted, giving false hope.
"But I was just like, come on bro," said Jeanty.
Clearly, the Boise State star wasn't too bothered by the event and was able to laugh it off in the interview.
Now, the running back can focus on preparing for his rookie season. Jeanty should be the lead back immediately and could be a special talent for the Raiders.
In 2024, Jeanty had one of the best seasons from a running back in recent memory. The running back rushed for an FBS-leading 2,601 yards with a whopping 29 touchdowns.
As a result, Jeanty finished second in Heisman Trophy voting behind Travis Hunter, and was selected to be a first-team All-American.
Overall, Jeanty played in 40 games at Boise State and finished his college career with 4,769 yards and 50 touchdowns. The star also caught 80 passes for 862 yards and six touchdowns, showing an ability to contribute in multiple phases.
New head coach Pete Carroll loves to have a reliable running back, so Jeanty might have landed in the best possible spot.
