Maple Leafs' Mitch Marner's pending free agency prompts savage chant in Ottawa image

Mitch Marner is going to be a free agent.

It's one of the most cut and dry facts in the NHL.

And with the Maple Leafs playing in the postseason, it's front and center. Marner will be a coveted attacking player as soon as Toronto's season ends.

First, he's trying to get the Maple Leafs past the Ottawa Senators in the first round.

And the Ottawa fans broke out a savage chant to try to get in Toronto's heads during Game 6.

"Marner's leaving," chanted the Senators faithful.

Give it a listen:

Marner is expected to earn a contract that makes him one of the highest-paid players in the NHL.

Whether he leaves or not remains to be seen. As a Canadian kid, maybe there's some appeal to staying in Toronto. He also gets to play with superstar center Auston Matthews if he stays with the Leafs.

But sometimes, the money and the pastures can look greener in other cities.

We'll just have to wait and see if the Senators fans are proven correct.
