Los Angeles Dodgers slugging outfielder Teoscar Hernández has revealed the one condition he needs for him to defend his Home Run Derby title.
Hernández won the Home Run Derby as he beat Bobby Witt Jr. in the finals. Although the 2025 Major League Baseball All-Star Game and Home Run Derby are months away, Hernández was asked about defending his title on Mookie Betts’ podcast, On Base, and he revealed he would, under one condition.
“Maybe I’m gonna do it again. Maybe," Hernández said. "If I’m an All-Star, maybe. I’m not gonna go over there just for the (Home Run Derby).”

Hernández’s comments shouldn’t come as a surprise, as New York Mets slugger Pete Alonso made similar comments, saying he wanted to be an actual All-Star if he was going to compete in the Home Run Derby again.
Hernández is a two-time Major League Baseball All-Star, as he was an All-Star in 2021 and 2024, so there is a chance he is an All-Star this season and would be able to defend his Home Run Derby title.
The slugging outfielder is hitting .259 with 5 home runs and 18 RBIs with the Dodgers to begin the 2025 season. Hernández signed a three-year, $66 million deal to return to Los Angeles this offseason, with a club option for a fourth season in 2028.
