The Washington Wizards could boost their scoring attack by adding an experienced and athletic forward who could diversify their offense off of the free-agent pile next summer.

The Wizards have not fully nosedived into a rebuild just yet, but they are close. Washington has several players who are either on expiring deals (Malcolm Brogdon), approaching an upcoming player option (Khris Middleton), or are headed for free agency in the summer of 2026 (Marcus Smart and Richaun Holmes). They could not only lose their best veteran presences in short order but could also use some size at the power forward position. The 6-6 Corey Kispert and Justin Champagnie backup starter Kyshawn George.

Thus, it may behoove the Wizards to look into acquiring Atlanta Hawks power forward Larry Nance Jr. in free agency next summer. Nance Jr. will be coming off of an $11.2 million salary in 2024-25. He could be a quality mid-level signing for Washington ahead of the next campaign.

Known for his ability to rise up to the rafters for emphatic poster dunks, the 32-year-old would bring energy to the Wizards. He averages 8.5 points and 4.3 rebounds this year, plus is a high IQ passer. Nance Jr. would help Washington most by boosting their distance shooting and igniting their fast-break.

The 10-year pro knocks down 1.4 three-pointers per contest on a praiseworthy 44.7% clip from downtown. He’s drastically improved his outside game this time around. Nance Jr. is also skilled at boxing out his man, cleaning the glass and bringing the ball up the floor. His fundamentals coupled with his natural gifts would blend well in D.C. If Washington’s front office can bring him in at a discount, he’d be a quiet, yet effective insertion into their lineup for next season.
