Lions' Jameson Williams at risk of being traded if NFL Draft goes one way for Detroit image

Jameson Williams emerged in a big way for the Detroit Lions in 2024.

But there's at least a bit of concern among the Detroit fanbase that Williams could be traded if the NFL Draft falls a certain way.

Detroit beat writer Dave Birkett wonders if the Lions will try to draft Texas wide receiver Matthew Golden early on. That would give the Lions "a more cost-controlled deep threat for their offense," writes Birkett.

Williams wouldn't get shipped out of town right away. Detroit will almost certainly accept his fifth-year option, which would keep him in town through the 2026 season.

After that, though, all bets are off if the Lions have someone like Golden to step right in as a replacement.

In the near term, that would mean Williams winds up training the guy who will eventually take his job.

If Williams continues to play like he did last season, he'll have a strong chance at getting a big role elsewhere in free agency following the 2026 NFL season. He had 1,001 yards and seven TDs in 2024.

Lions fans need not worry too much, because a deal is likely a long way off.

In the meantime, Detroit and Jared Goff will be counting on Williams to help them win a Super Bowl. That's the main goal right now for Dan Campbell's bunch. A trade is only something to worry about down the road.
