The 2024 Major League Soccer season is coming to a close, with clubs across the United States now firmly on the hunt for the coveted MLS Cup trophy.
Defending champions Columbus Crew were looking to become the first repeat MLS champions in over a decade, while Lionel Messi and Inter Miami give chase having won the Supporters' Shield as the 2024 regular season champion. However, those goals have come crashing down as both sides went crashing out of the playoffs in Round One.
Christian Benteke of D.C. United won the regular season goal scoring title, but his side failed to reach the postseason, so other top scorers like Messi, Denis Bouanga and Luis Suarez will look to lead a title charge. Messi finished the regular season with the most goal contributions of any player in MLS, despite missing significant time due to injury, but has seen his postseason come to an end with early elimination.

With the 2024 regular season now complete and the playoffs here, Apple has designated the entirety of the opening weekend slate free to air in hopes of putting the MLS playoffs in front of as many individuals as possible.
While every single match from the first set of Round One games were made available for free, it remains to be seen whether any other games the rest of the way will be accessible regardless of subscription level. At this point, it can safely be assumed that all remaining playoff games will be for subscribers only, with only televised games with the potential to be made available for free.
MLS Cup playoffs Conference semifinals
With Inter Miami eliminated alongside the other top three seeds in the Eastern Conference, the bracket has been turned upside down. It leaves a Hudson River derby in one match, while wild card winners Atlanta United travel to Florida again for a meeting with Orlando City.
There's a little more chalk in the Western Conference, where top two seeds LAFC and LA Galaxy remain on a potential collision course for an El Trafico conference final if they can get past the Seattle Sounders and Minnesota United respectively.
