Premier League teams relegated 2025: Which clubs are going down to EFL Championship for next season? image

Relegation from the Premier League is considered one of the most undesirable outcomes in all of professional football, as it denies a club access to next season's lucrative pool of top-flight income and exposure and instead banishes them to the Championship the following season.

Finishing in the bottom three places sees a team drop to the second tier, while the top two finishers in the Championship and the playoff winner replace them.

It's extremely difficult for newly promoted clubs to find themselves established long-term in the Premier League, but it's also quite normal that one or two of them at least stay afloat for a few seasons.

Unfortunately, that has not been the case in 2024/25, as it appears a near certainty that all three promoted sides will be dropping back down to the Championship at the end of the campaign.

The Sporting News reviews the current relegation picture and details the likelihood of each outcome, with only one result left plausible at this stage.

Premier League teams relegated 2025: Who is going down?

On April 6, Southampton became the first club relegated from the Premier League this season, their fate sealed by a 3-1 loss at Tottenham.

The Saints still need two points to overtake Derby County's worst-ever points total of 11 from the 2007/08 season.

They will try to avoid that humiliation without Ivan Juric, who was sacked as manager on April 7. Juric lost 12 of his 14 Premier League games in charge after replacing Russell Martin earlier in the season.

Which clubs are most likely to be relegated in 2025?

For the second season in succession, it looks like the three promoted sides will be the ones to return to the second tier. Ipswich Town's defeat to fourth-bottom Wolves on April 5 left them 12 points shy of their opponents with seven games and 21 points to play for.

Leicester City are three points worse off and are most likely to have their relegation confirmed next.

When can Ipswich and Leicester be relegated?

Leicester's can theoretically end up with 41 points, although a run of eight consecutive wins would outdo their great escape of 2014/15 and, let's be honest, it's not happening.

That's also Ipswich's high ceiling. The reality is that it probably lowers fairly swiftly and expect both clubs to leave us around matchday 34 or 35.
