The start of the 2025 MLB season has been surprising for a handful of teams across the league. One of them is the Baltimore Orioles, who are just 9-13 entering Wednesday's game against the Washington Nationals.
Prior to the season, some even predicted the Orioles to compete for the American League pennant, so an early sub-.500 record isn't what many expected.
Meanwhile, the Mid-Atlantic Sports Network announced that fans could purchase a season-long, blackout-free subscription pass to watch both Orioles and Nationals games.
Unfortunately, in an all-time gaffe, some subscribers were charged $8,999 instead of just $89.99, per Sam Cohn of The Baltimore Sun.
“MASN is aware of the issue that affected a handful of subscribers,” a MASN spokesperson said in a statement. “Those impacted were contacted yesterday [Monday] and immediately issued refunds for the additional charge.”
Can you imagine checking your bank account and seeing an incorrect $8,999 charge instead of just $89.99? Well, that was the case for some fans, although they instantly issued refunds to fix the mistake.
"I tried to sign up and they tried to charge my card $8,999.00. They forgot a decimal. Fortunately my bank auto-rejected that charge, but I would not sign up right now," one fan had wrote about the MASN purchase attempt.
It also doesn't help that the Orioles lost to the Cincinnati Reds, 24-2, on Easter Sunday, so fans were certainly not thrilled with the franchise for a few days following a series of blunders.
