The San Francisco 49ers were able to agree to a four-year deal with tight end George Kittle to keep him in the Bay Area. Now, all the attention shifts to a new contract for quarterback Brock Purdy.
Purdy is expected to get north of $50 million per year whenever his new deal is done, and it should be a matter of time.
The big question is how far away are the two sides from putting pen to paper?
On the Purdy front, Dianna Russini of The Athletic dropped some intel in the latest episode of Scoop City with Chase Daniel, and it's an encouraging sign.
"I think there's some talk out there that they are far apart on this and it's gonna take a while. I don't get that sense," Russini said. "The sense I'm getting is they're closer than what we think. I don't believe Brock Purdy shows up for OTAs if he doesn't feel good that they're near a number that he's happy with."
"To me, the action alone tells me they are closer, but doing some digging on it, I think this is still moving in a really good direction, I don't think there's any concern," Russini concluded.
Purdy getting locked up before the season starts would ease a lot of worries for both sides, and Russini's latest update is good news in that regard.
