Jazz Chisholm isn't worried about the oblique injury he picked up Tuesday night.
The New York Yankees second baseman was pulled from the 15-3 win over the Baltimore Orioles during the first inning following a double he hit down the line.
The injury seemed to take place during a swing earlier in the at-bat, which showed Chisholm dealing with clear discomfort.
Despite the hit, the Yankees took him out of the game after he got up gingerly.
Though the team will get the MRI results back Thursday, the 27-year-old doesn't seem concerned about the injury.
"I’m really not as concerned as everybody else,” Chisholm said via The New York Post. “I feel pretty good. I’ve torn my oblique before so I know it’s not torn or anything. I can cough without any pain. It was just to be cautious not to try to overdo it."
It's been a volatile season for Chisholm at the plate. He has just a .181 batting average, but he's also hit seven home runs while posting a respectable .714 OPS.
Those numbers aren't close to what he gave New York during the second half last season following the trade from Miami, but the power is there.
Chisholm has mostly struggled with strikeouts as his 35.1% whiff rate and 31.2% strikeout rate rank in the sixth and seventh percentiles, per Baseball Savant.
The 2022 All-Star has provided a boost defensively, though. Taking over for Gleyber Torres at second base, Chisholm ranks in the 94th percentile in Outs Above Average (OAA).
The results of the MRI will ultimately determine what path the Yankees take, but Chisholm seems very confident this won't be a major issue.
"I kind of know my body,” Chisholm said. “I guess these things right most of the time. I would know if I’m super in pain or my stuff is messed up like that.”
